Writing
is one of the greatest inventions
ever! It gives us the power to connect with other people over almost unlimited
time and space. It preserves our thoughts so they can be revisited easily at any
time, even years or generations later. Writing is also important for our
self-development. The process of sorting out sometimes ambiguous and often
conflicting thoughts and working them out into clear writing that can make sense
to us and others increases our ability to think. Writing our goals, and plans to
reach them, increases our success. Writing notes extends our memory. Through
writing, we can persuade others to take actions we feel are desirable. Keeping a
journal allows us to relive and re-examine important parts of our lives. The
invention of writing around 6,000 years ago allowed mankind to progress as never
before. Each development in writing, such as the alphabet, the printing press,
the computer, and the internet has dramatically boosted our quality of life and
ability to advance our capabilities. Truly, the pen is mightier than the sword. |
