Get your children involved in smart shopping. Have them be on the watch out for coupons and scan the grocery ads together before doing the weekly shopping for groceries. Take a pad of paper, and perhaps a small calculator. See how much money you can save by making wise choices and prudently using coupons. Write the amount saved on your receipt. When you get home, place the receipt in a special envelope. Write the amount saved on the top of the envelope. As you finish each week's grocery shopping, place the receipt in the envelope, write the amount saved, and add it to the accumulated savings. Watch and be amazed as the total grows. At some point, decide how the money saved could be used. It, of course, could be placed in a savings or investment account to earn still further money or it could be used for a special family activity, opportunity, or purchase that would not have been possible without the savings achieved from smart shopping.
