Math Skills Record Sheets

This lists the sequence of math skills important for your child to learn from pre-school through eighth grade. It allows you to check off each skill as it is mastered and always points to the most important to be learned next.

Keep an on-going record of your child's progress and current needs by circling the number of each math skill for which your child needs further work or understanding.  Fill in the circle when the skill has been mastered, and record the date.

      For example:

                         ____ 2. One to one correspondence  (K 1)

                         ____3. Number magnitude  (K 1)

The numbers in parentheses indicate the common grade levels the skill or concept is introduced.  Sometimes an age level may be used. Any skills found not mastered at a lower level than the grade at which the child is expected to perform become high priority objectives.  It is very difficult to make good math progress if unmastered lower-level skills keep getting in the way.  In any case, skills at a child's appropriate challenge level offer the greatest motivation and growing-power for any child.  Identical identifying numbers are used for both tests and games.  This makes it easy to quickly look up the specific games that would make the greatest difference to your child's success.  If used in a school setting, the teacher can pinpoint each student's needs and plan appropriate, supportive activities to ensure each child having a successful school year.
